The Biscuit Factory Foundation is committed to providing exhibition opportunities for emerging and established artists in the North East. We believe that providing a platform for artistic expression by nurturing creative practitioners to work unimpeded by commercial constraints, true artistry can be explored and developed.

Street Art
The Biscuit Factory Foundation brings together local graffitti artists & young people in an urban art informal ‘mentor’ scheme . The result – the largest public display of street art in the region located in Sandyford, Newcastle.
The Biscuit Factory now stocks merchandise featuring graffitti designs that can be purchased.

Artist Studios
The Biscuit Factory Foundation facilitates the provision of artist studios. From these studio spaces artists are welcomed into a community of creative practitioners who supported by The Biscuit Factory Foundation have the opportunity to exhibit their work and engage directly with members of the public through open studio and market events.

Public Art Commissions
The Biscuit Factory Foundation is working with The Theatre Royal as part of their 175th anniversary celebrations to commission a piece of public art by a local artist, to be on permanent display in the Theatre Royal’s foyer. The Shakespearean character of Mercutio was voted for by members of the public to be immortalized into bronze.
This prestigious opportunity was awarded to local sculptor Lisa Delarny and was unveiled in April 2012.
Young Artists of the Year
Young Artists of the Year is a competition and exhibition for artists aged 35 and under. It is an annual national competition launching in 2011 as an opportunity for emerging artists as well as young established artists to engage with the commercial art market. From over 200 submissions received last year, a showcase exhibition from over 30 artists was selected. Judges, including Baltic trustee Ivor Stolliday and North East’s Contemporary Art Society‘s Head of Collectors Development Rebecca Morrill chose printmaker Jonathan Ashworth as the 2011 Young Artist of the Year who received a prize package including a solo exhibition and art materials. The inaugural YAY show was supported by Culture Magazine, Winsor & Newton and Blackwells.
The Holy Biscuit
Developed as a cultural hub for the community and launching in 2010, The Holy Biscuit is an independent art space which provides a platform for creative enterprise, engagement and exchange.
The space is used for a range of projects ranging from exhibitions and craft markets to lectures and educational sessions.
